Thrifty Threads

July 8, 2011 by Angela Leave a Comment

It’s past time for another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most stylish compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.

A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a consignment shop, a thrift store, ebay, Craigslist, a yard sale, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing.

I am so thrilled to share these photos from Angi, who bought her gorgeous wedding dress on ebay. It was a never-worn Jessica McClintock and she got it for the incredible price of just $130! Angi says that was less than the cost of her husband’s tux rental. Amazing.

Angi says she loves a good bargain, and I can’t get over this one. It fits her perfectly, and she looks absolutely beautiful. I don’t think any single women who read my blog are ever going to buy a wedding dress retail. Not after seeing what they can find on ebay, as well Diana’s incredible find from Craigslist.

To top it all off, after the big day Angi donated the dress to her church’s thrift store so that another lucky bride could wear it for even less. Angi, you’re a woman after my own heart. You had me at “ebay.”

Thanks Angi, for those remarkable photos that prove yet again that you don’t need to go into debt to dress nicely, or even to look stunning at your wedding. Readers, it’s your turn! I know that’s a tough act to follow, but please put on your favorite thrift store scores, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. I’d love to get some casual summer clothing examples. Anyone finding any summer dresses, shorts, or Hawaiian shirts out there?

What are YOUR favorite secondhand shopping secrets? Please share them, along with compliments for Angi, in the Comments section. And here’s one more photo of the lovely bride…

About Angela

On January 1st, 2009, I joined The Compact and pledged to Buy Nothing New for one year. It sounded like the perfect way to converge my desire to live on less money with my interest in living a simpler life and trying to lessen my carbon footprint. The experiment was so rewarding that I'm continuing with it indefinitely. This blog documents my journey in non-consumerism.
