Thrifty Threads

June 23, 2011 by Angela Leave a Comment

Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.

A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, a yard sale, Craigslist, ebay, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing.

Today’s model is Larry, modeling his Tommy Bahama shirt which he bought at a yard sale for just $1.50. His wife Hilda was featured on Thrifty Threads a few months back, you can read that post here. Hilda says Larry had never heard of Tommy Bahama but since the woman at the yard sale made such a big deal about it, he joked that they’d better buy it before the price went up to $2. Larry loves the shirt and was really excited about getting it. Larry and Hilda live in Stockton, California, where Larry is the Pastor of the Calgary First Assembly of God church. They both love great deals, and they spend Saturday mornings going to yard sales and having a cup of coffee. It’s their special time together.

Thanks Larry! I am always so happy to have a male model, which is pretty rare on Thrifty Threads. You look great!  And very comfortable in your nice and sunny backyard. What could be better than a shirt that is both comfortable and nice-looking? Great deal! I don’t know how much those shirts go for new, but I know they’re pretty pricey. And thanks Hilda, for sending along the photo. I know a lot of my readers have tried to get their husbands to model for Thrifty Threads without any luck, so kudos to you both.

Okay readers, it’s your turn! Now that it’s officially summertime, we’d love to see the secondhand warm weather outfits you’re putting together. You know the drill: just put on your get up, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. Don’t be shy, keep those photos coming!

About Angela

On January 1st, 2009, I joined The Compact and pledged to Buy Nothing New for one year. It sounded like the perfect way to converge my desire to live on less money with my interest in living a simpler life and trying to lessen my carbon footprint. The experiment was so rewarding that I'm continuing with it indefinitely. This blog documents my journey in non-consumerism.
