Update to “What is YOUR Dream?”

Since I have no way of knowing who purchases the Dream Save Do guide, I would love to hear from you in the Comments section. Please share your dream – just writing it out will be a step toward realizing it.

In the month since I read it, I am moving forward on so many of my dreams – I’m working on a novel, started a new part-time job I love, saved $652 from that job and a few other odd jobs toward a trip to New Zealand next year to be at the wedding of good friends, am running my first ever half-marathon next weekend (13.1 miles), and have committed to being a Big Sister to a 13-year-old girl. They are all things I’ve wanted to do for years, and they’re all happening now. And I attribute all the activity to Betsy and Warren and their Focus and Action plan.

My dream has been on hold for a year as I’ve been ill but now I’m nearly back to fitness I’m started to work on it again with gusto! I’m hoping to relinquish paid employment, substitute a salary with money earned from lots of smaller endeavours and by doing this have more time and flexibility to go, physically and mentally, where the mood takes me!

Lovelygrey- I am so glad you’re feeling better. I had some health problems last year and I felt that everything in my life was put on hold during that time. It has made me so grateful for my good health since. Your dream sounds fantastic. I encourage you to write it down and make a plan for saving, if you’re not planning on buying DreamSaveDo, which would be perfect for you.

I have yet to buy the book but I had to comment and say I was so excited to see that you have become a BIG! That is so exciting!! I have been a BIG for 5.5 years and it has been a wonderful experience. She was 9 when I met her and now she will be 15 in January. We have had a ton of fun and I have never regretted it! I hope you have a wonderful experience with your Little!!

Erin – I am thrilled about it! I’ve wanted to do it for years, but my schedule is so variable I was always worried about letting a girl down when I got into the middle of a 60-hour-a-week (or more!) job. But this one fell into my lap – a friend’s church is sponsoring this family of a woman and six kids who left an abusive relationship, and my friend says the 13-year-old needs a Big Sister and I would be perfect because she likes writing and art and music. I’m so excited to meet her, I can’t wait! My friend assured me that she would like me too, because I was worried maybe I was too old or not cool enough. But I’ve got all kinds of plans already.

      Thanks so much for commenting!

I have quite a few “dreams” that I’ve actively pursued over the years. I bought a home at 24 and got married right before I turned 25. Several days after graduating with my masters, we bought a time share so that we could continue to travel and vacation every year. I feel very strongly a sense of duty to my family and community, so I’ve always volunteered and participated in different organizations. I’m currently a Big Sister, too (yay!). I love it- it is rewarding in more ways than I can express. I’m very content with my life and the goals that I have been able to accomplish.
My current “dream” (I like to say goal- it sounds more purposeful) is to be a stay at home mother once we have kids. Financially, this is out of our league right now so we are trying to pay off our credit card and other debts. We also know moving will have to be part of the deal, so we’ve been talking a lot about that. This dream will be a long process but I hope we can afford to do this in the future.

Jennifer, Congrats on all you’ve accomplished so far! It sounds like you’re very goal oriented and so I’m sure you will reach your goals! It sounds like you’re doing things in the right order- paying down debt is the first thing, and then figuring out how much (or how little) you need to live on.

If you’re not a reader already, I encourage you to check out The Frugal Girl. She’s a stay at home mom of 4 and also homeschools them and she does it on a pretty small income. But there life is anything but small.

I wish you all the best. Thanks so much for sharing.
