It’s time for another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
Sorry for the brief unintended hiatus, due to vacation and work. Thrifty Threads will be back on a weekly basis, for as long as I continue to receive submissions.
Today’s model is Lisey, Kristen’s (AKA The Frugal Girl) 10-year-old daughter. Lisey looks adorable in this Goodwill dress that cost just $3. It was originally $7, but it was marked down due to a stain on the front. Isn’t the color gorgeous?
Kristen says the dress was marked dry-clean only, but for $3 she was willing to take a chance on washing it in her machine. So she put it in on the gentle cycle and line-dried it, and it came out great! Now Lisey has a lovely dress, and Kristen’s other two daughters will wear it after she outgrows it.
If you’ve been reading this blog more than a few months, you’ve heard me mention The Frugal Girl. And if you’ve never checked out her blog, you should do it right now, because it’s absolutely one of the best blogs ever. It’s one of my personal favorites, where I’ve gotten some fantastic recipes and been inspired to waste less food and lower our grocery bill while still eating healthfully. And that’s only the beginning of what I’ve learned from Kristen’s blog. She’s one of the leaders of the waste-no-food crusade and the originator of Food Waste Friday, and reading her blog is like a manual on how to be an awesome wife, mother, neighbor, and human being. And she does it all graciously, and without making you hate her just a little bit (if you know what I mean.)
I’ve waxed rhapsodic about her blog many times, especially during her appearances on Thrifty Threads, of which she was an early an enthusiastic supporter. Click here to see Kristen in a Goodwill summer dress of her own, here for a classic dress and boots look, here for a casual T-shirt and jeans combo, and here, where she wears a $5 Goodwill denim skirt two different ways.
Lisey is following in her mom’s footsteps as a crafter and baker, and it looks like she’s inherited her talent as well. Check out this handmade gifts post, where Lisey’s work includes an embroidered fish bag for her little sister Zoe, as well as a pillow and blanket for Zoe’s little whale. And here’s Lisey as an aspiring pastry chef with a pan of cranberry bread ready to pop in the oven. And just for fun, one more click will bring you to photos of all three of Kristen’s girls wearing pink Goodwill dresses. I wonder if Kristen has ever worn hers on the same day.
Thanks Lisey, for being such a great Thrifty Threads model! And thanks Kristen, for sending in the photo. I’m interested in trying to wash dry-clean only items, but unfortunately I never want to risk it because the pieces I own are some of my favorites. Okay readers, it’s your turn! Put on your favorite secondhand outfit, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. Don’t be shy, it will be fun to see yourself on Thrifty Threads!
Do you shop secondhand? Do you wash dry-clean only clothing in the washing machine? Please leave your thoughts and advice, plus compliments for Lisey, in the Comments section.
