Feedback, please

Good morning, readers!

It’s been a year since I revamped the blog and began writing two or three posts a week, after a year and a half of posting nearly every day. I’m thinking about some more changes, and I’d like your feedback. I’ll take this week off to reevaluate the direction of the blog.

What have you liked best about the blog this past year? Anything you don’t like?

Is there anything you’ve missed? Meatless Monday posts? Food waste Fridays? CSA delivery days? Anything else?

Any suggestions or ideas about what you’d like to see me talk about in the area of nonconsumerism?

I still enjoy writing the blog and having this conversation about living a nonconsumer lifestyle, but I want to keep it fresh and fun. I’m open to all ideas.

You can leave a comment or write to me in an email. Thanks in advance for your input. And have a lovely week.

I miss your meatless monday posts and csa posts, but mostly I just miss the more day-to-day posts which give us a glimpse into your life.

    • Angela says

Thanks Cate. I think I’ll do more of those, and really I think they’re my favorite to write too (the day-to-day). I’m considering an occasional meatless monday post, but don’t have much interest in CSA posts.

I really liked your meatless mondays and csa posts. I also liked just hearing your thoughts and how you embrace living a compact-y life. To be honest, I’m not interested in Thrifty Threads at all. Plus, it seems like a lot of your recent posts are to point out other bloggers, which I’m also personally not interested in. I’d love to see you do more recipes and how you handle the daily struggle of living in a materialistic culture so successfully.

    • Angela says

Thanks Jennifer. Many people love Thrifty Threads, but I do want to do more of other types of posts too, like living in a materialistic culture as a nonconsumer. I don’t think I’ve done more than one post recently pointing out other bloggers, and I do that rarely and only when I think it would be of interest to my readers.

I love Thrifty Threads. Meatless Mondays, Food Waste, etc are not so appealing – but that’s probably my time of life – older, living alone etc. Plus, lots of bloggers do those things. But I agree with Cate that day to day glimpses into your life are interesting. How you work frugality and non-consumerism into daily “stuff”. Especially in LA, which from this NW perspective seems very consumerish – but I know you do it, so tell us how!

I am a relatively new subscriber, and I have enjoyed everything about the blog/posts. I really enjoy the day to day non consumerism posts. I find the food waste posts interesting as they have inspired me to be more aware of my own food waste and thus work towards avoiding food waste. I have recently adopted a nonconsumerism approach to living so I am very interested in reading about how you attend to the lifestyle of frugality. I look forward to reading about what the future brings to you.

JoAnn- Thank you so much for the feedback. I’m glad to hear I’m still getting new subscribers! Congrats on adopting the nonconsumerism approach to living. I hope you find it as rewarding as I have! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

Angela, I too loved your more day-to-day posts: a glimpse into your life, your thoughts about, struggles, victories and compromises with the non-consumer lifestyle. I really appreciate your blog and hope you will continue sharing with us.

    • Angela says

Thanks so much for your kind comments and support, Marie-Josee.Many people have asked for the day to day glimpses, and since I do enjoy writing those, that is what I will be adding back more than anything.

    • Angela says

Thanks Nancy! You are in the minority regarding Thrifty Threads, so I don’t think I’ll be cutting it.

I am tired of the thrifty treads. We all know of the good deals in clothes at thrift stores.
I am also not interested in the give-away posts and contests.

I would like more content for living a frugal life, how do do things better, faster, cheaper.

    • Angela says

Thanks Victoria. Thrifty Threads is a little more than just highlighting good deals at thrift stores. For me and I think for others, I had a mental block that those clothes just would not be as nice or as stylish as clothes I’d buy retail, and I think seeing people in photos looking so cute for so little money is really inspirational for a lot of people.

Your comment about giveaway posts and contests is confusing- maybe you have my blog mixed up with another? I have literally done two giveaway posts in two and a half years of blogging. And I don’t remember any contests at all.

Also, I’m much more interested in nonconsumerism than frugality, and don’t necessarily want to do things faster or cheaper. Especially if cheaper means made in China, harmful to the environment, etc. I would say I want to do things more responsibly, more thoughtfully, and with more care, not faster or cheaper. Better, yes.

Kim, I don’t think I’ll do that feature anymore because I became very bored with it. Although it did help me learn to waste almost no food. I will consider talking about it on occasional fridays, because I do think it’s an important and useful issue.

      Thanks for your feedback.

  7. Erica says

I love Thrift Threads, and I miss Meatless Mondays, CSA day, and Food Waste Fridays. And of course, I’d really just love to see more posts about your life and daily dealings. Not that I’m nosy, but as someone going through the transition I love to read others going through it. It’s a virtual support group!

    • Angela says

Erica- I’d love to hear more about your transition to nonconsumerism. Is it relatively recent? Are you doing The Compact? Yes, my readers are a fantastic virtual support group, and I honestly don’t know if I could have kept this up without them as well as some other bloggers. Thanks so much for commenting.

Bring back Meatless Mondays—because I’m a vegetarian and want more people to see the light! 😉 and please keep Thrifty Threads, it’s my favorite.

    • Angela says

Lilypad- I may bring back Meatless Mondays, once a month or so. I would like to keep highlighting the movement. thanks for the feedback.

Love Thrifty Threads – favorite column! Meatless Mondays and CSA posts would be welcomed back. I’d love to hear about other frugal things you do for fun. Thank you for being a great female voice promoting frugality, but not just one that want things for “cheap.” One who is aware why things are so cheap, and connects actions to the planet and all its inhabitants.

Above all, I love your honesty!

    • Angela says

Catherine, Thanks for your feedback and constant support. I still enjoy writing Thrifty Threads, and most readers seem to like it. And yes, I will do more posts about “fun” and “entertainment” that I do with my husband and with friends.

      I really appreciate your comments.

  10. Kira says

I don’t mind glancing at thrifty threads posts, but they aren’t really my favorite. I would rather see the daily ins and outs of how you cope with living in such a buy new, gimmee more, more, more society. I find it so hard with kids and a spouse who likes gadgets. And, the prices at the grocery store are outrageous. How do you find a CSA? Our’s all have waiting lists. How do you handle gifts from others that you would never in a million years ever purchase for yourself? I have no problem limiting what my kids get, but grandma is another story.

    • Angela says

Kira, You got it! Thanks for the feedback. My spouse also likes gadgets and over time he buys less just by my example. I have never expressly forbid him to buy new, but without confrontation he usually comes around. And he’s a natural Compacter and recycler anyway. He doesn’t like waste. I don’t have kids, and I know that would be much more challenging for so many reasons.

Most people with whom I am close enough to exchange gifts know what sort of things I like or need, and tend to give me books, wine, or jewelry if they know me well enough to know my taste. I hardly ever receive gifts that are “too much” or inappropriate or wrapped in plastic or anything like that. I’m sure if I’d ever had a baby shower, I would have been horrified because I can’t help but being horrified at the packaging and other waste at friends’ showers in the past.

      Thanks so much for commenting.
