Thrifty Threads

Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.

A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, Craigslist, a yard sale, or anywhere else you find used clothing.

Today’s model is Casie, back for appearance #4 on Thrifty Threads. I think that qualifies as a regular! This time, Casie’s sporting a different look. Here’s what she says about it:

“As you will notice… I am rocking an apron.  It is my new ‘thing’.  I think an apron is underrated as an accessory.  The apron is vintage and was given to me by my good friend.  The dress and tank top underneath are thrifted and probably cost about $7 total.  I have to admit I get some confused looks in this outfit, but I love it.  It is lots of fun.”

I agree it’s lots of fun, and I think getting confused looks about it is fun too! Thanks Casie, for another cute photo, and for being such a consistent supporter of Thrifty Threads. Click here if you want to check out Casie’s previous appearances, and here to check out her blog called 100 Thingees. The title refers to a list of things she wants to accomplish (no, not before she dies!) that “might be fun, will make her better or smarter, that will make her giggle when she thinks about it, and won’t require a babysitter.” Plenty of items on her list make me giggle, and some have inspired me as well. If you like lists, you’ll love this one.

When I mentioned to Casie that I loved how her children seemed to make their way into all of her photos, she said her little guys follow her around like she’s Snow White and that sometimes it makes her feel like a rock star and sometimes she thinks she has the clingiest shadow in the world. Either way, it makes for funny pictures.

Okay readers, it’s your turn! It’s time to break out the summer duds, and put on your favorite secondhand outfit, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. Don’t be shy, keep those submissions coming! Many people tell me that Thrifty Threads is their favorite feature on this blog, so no matter how busy I am I try to make sure I’m keeping up with this segment. But I need my readers to keep it going!

What a fantastic look! I just pulled out an apron recently-a homemade one I received as a gift and decided that I need to make or find some more of these! There’s something about an apron that makes me feel like I know what I’m doing in my kitchen.

Tara- Sometimes dressing the part helps us get into our “roles.” How else would they sell fancy sporting goods and clothing? :)

I’ve never seen an apron this cute, but I do like it out of the kitchen and love the idea of Casie getting funny looks when she wears it.

I shop thrift stores regularly. My daughter and I found a gorgeous 100% linen dress from J. Jill a few months ago. I paid $13. Woot!!

My tip/advice is to know the quality brands and look for those at thrift shops.

Robin- great advice. I have been using that tactic, since I was a bit unfamiliar and overwhelmed with shopping thrift. Another thing that has worked for me is to find a couple of consignment shops that carry clothes I like, and their inventory doesn’t make me want to walk out, like I feel when I go to Goodwill.

Great find on the J. Jill dress! I like their styles because they don’t go out of style- I still have some skirts from there that must be almost ten years old by now.

      Thanks for commenting!

Thank you for all the kind comments. I just got back from my stay-cation. Me and the moms went up to the Goodwill and shopped till we dropped. MAN I LOVE THRIFTING!
