Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, a yard sale, ebay, Craigslist, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing.
Today’s model is moi, showing off my favorite new blouse that I nabbed for just five bucks at my favorite consignment shop. I love this blouse so much that I am now a true convert to secondhand shopping. Just so you understand how incredible this deal is, this consignment store is very chi chi and carries a lot of designer clothing I would never have been able to afford retail. For example: Prada purses for hundreds of dollars (how much did they cost retail?) and jeans for $35 that originally cost $150.
Last weekend they were having their annual “parking lot sale,” an everything-must-go type of affair. I tried on several items and was thrilled to find that this top fit me perfectly and I loved it. Even at the bargain basement rate, I expected to pay $15 or $20 for it, knowing their price scale. When the saleswoman found the tag and it was marked at the lowest $5 price, I couldn’t believe my luck. I also was immediately suspicious that no one else had bought it first.
I wore it the other day and got lots of compliments, plus it’s comfortable which assures that I’ll wear it often. It’s 100% cotton, which means I’ll have to wash it by handĀ in cold water, which is the only thing that keeps this findĀ from being a perfect “10.” Still, I know it will become a spring/summer staple.
Okay readers, it’s your turn! Time to bring out the summer dresses, skirts, and shorts. Put on your secondhand scores, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. We all love to see your fabulous finds, so don’t be shy!
