Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, a yard sale, freecycle, ebay, Craigslist, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find secondhand clothing.
Today’s model is Linda, back for a repeat performance on Thrifty Threads. Linda embraced a frugal lifestyle when she wanted to purchase her own home in Seattle, and she never looked back. Last summer she found this skirt at Vallue Village for just $3.99. Linda says the fabric is a cotton gauze and it’s very comfortable in warm weather. A pretty, loose-fitting skirt is my favorite thing to wear in the summer. They’re easy, comfortable, and they look so much nicer than an old pair of jeans or khaki shorts. Linda is wearing her skirt with a Land’s End polo shirt from Goodwill that she says looked like it had never been worn and cost just $2.99.
Linda says her collie Glory insisted on getting in the photo. I don’t know if she wears Thrifty Threads.
Nice shopping, Linda! And thanks for sending in that excellent photo. What you call a broomstick skirt, I call a gypsy skirt, and I still wear some favorites I’ve had for years. Along with the mixture of fabrics I love, they never seem to be out of style since I think they fit in with a sort of “costume” type of dressing that works well when you’re a thrift store shopper. Linda says she’s doing her part by sending more examples, but she doesn’t want to just see her own picture. “What fun would that be?” she asks. So readers, it’s your turn! Put on your favorite secondhand outfit, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. We all love to see what people are coming up with these days. Just last week I made a rare trip to a consignment store and tried on several pairs of jeans (you can read about my hatred of trying on jeans here, in one of my very first posts), and found some I just love. They are SO soft and comfortable they’re almost like wearing pajamas. I think they’re going to become my favorite pair.
