Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y Outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, Craigslist, a yard sale, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find secondhand clothing.
Today’s model is Casie, back for her third appearance on Thrifty Threads. You may remember Casie from this post, where she’s sporting a super-cute dress-and-boots combo, or this one where she’s wearing an awesome Betsey Johnson silk dress she refashioned herself.
This time, Casie’s wearing an entirely thrifted ensemble which she says has become a good “respectable dressy lady outfit” for her. She found the skirt at Goodwill for $4.99, the shirt is from Salvation Army for $2.99, and she bought the shoes for about $15 including shipping off of ebay. Casie says she loves this outfit because it has a kind of 40’s flair, and I agree. It’s one of my favorite fashion eras, and I am particularly envious of those classic shoes. I think they’re ten times cuter than the heels that are so ubiquitous nowadays.
Casie still blogs at 100 Thingees, where she writes about the things she wants to accomplish that “might be fun, will make her better or smarter, that will make her giggle when she thinks about it, and won’t require a babysitter,” things like make ketchup from scratch, and take a cool family portrait. She’s recently completed item #44: take a bubble bath and #69: write down my 20 favorite things about my husband. As you can see, it’s an ecclectic list, and you can view it in its entirety here. Casie also posts sewing projects, book reviews, craft projects she shares with her daughter, and recipes. So check out 100 Thingees, it might inspire you to make your own list!
Thanks Casie, for another cute photo! You are a great example of how it’s possible to put together a unique and creative wardrobe by collecting secondhand pieces one at a time. Readers, it’s your turn! Put on your favorite thrifty score, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. We all love to see what you’re finding and how you’re putting it together to create a one-of-a-kind look. Isn’t that more fun than looking like a mall-dwelling fashion victim with no individual flair? The money you’ll save is icing on the cake.
