Welcome to another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, Craigslist, a yard sale, a clothing swap, freecycle, or anywhere else you get used clothing.
Today’s model is yours truly, modeling an outfit that’s become a staple over the past few months. I’ve worn it several times this winter, it’s perfect for day or night, work or home, and I’ve even worn it to a few parties and events. It’s really versatile and super comfortable.
Other than the boots, which are almost ten years old, the outfit was free to me because I got both pieces at our annual clothing swap. What’s cool is that the top and the blouse were from two different friends, so this is a brand-new combination. It’s also a color scheme and style I never would have bought for myself new, so the swap is encouraging me to branch out of my comfort zone. I can’t say enough good things about clothing swaps, and it’s worked out so well for me, because not buying new hasn’t turned out to be any sacrifice so far.
The necklace was a gift from a friend, another versatile piece that ends up going so well with many different colors and outfits in my wardrobe. I think it looks perfect with this blouse.
Okay readers, it’s your turn! Put on your favorite secondhand look, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. Don’t be shy! I always need more submissions, and we’re all inspired by the variety of merchandise that’s available used and for a fraction of what you’d pay retail. Models of all ages are welcome, including children, and men are particularly encouraged to submit (or to allow their wives or girlfriends to send in a photo). Be sure to write “Thrifty Threads” in the subject area, and if you don’t hear from me, I didn’t receive it or it got lost in my spam folder.
