Welcome to Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, a yard sale, Craigslist, ebay, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing.
Today’s model is Linda from Seattle, on her way to a Mariner’s baseball game. On Mondays, tickets are just $10, which Linda says she considers an indulgence. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Linda buys her clothes and many other items secondhand because she has a what she describes as a meager income, but she managed to buy her own home and therefore had to cut out almost all other spending. Since her parents were children of the Depression she grew up frugally so Linda says it wasn’t that hard to cut back.
Linda’s outfit consists of a t-shirt with a graphic from the 2001 All-Star game, along with shorts she made herself from fabric that cost just 99 cents and a $0.49 pattern from St. Vincent de Paul. The shoes were from freecycle, and the anklets were also from St. Vincent de Paul for just $0.49. Topping it all off is a baseball cap with the Mariner’s logo for 99 cents from Value Village.
Thanks Linda for that excellent photo! Linda says she’s far from being a fashionista, but I love how she’s put together a casual outfit for just a couple of dollars. Readers, it’s your turn! I’m all out of submissions, so please put on your favorite secondhand finds, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. Please put Thrifty Threads in the subject line. We all love to see what you’re finding out there and the creative ways you’re putting it together. Photos of men, children, and infants are welcome.
