Don’t forget to enter the giveaway, you have until midnight tomorrow, Friday the 28th.
It’s time for another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y Outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, craigslist, freecycle, a yard sale, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find used clothing.
Today’s model is Stacey, who says she “looooooves” finding treasures at Goodwill and the Salvation Army, and this is her favorite find so far. She scored this amazing vintage 1960s coat with a real fur collar for just $12 at the Salvation Army. Stacey says it’s fully lined with satin and has the coolest tag inside that says “Rubel Originals.” The only change she made to the coat was replacing the beige plastic buttons with sparkly green ones from Joann’s Fabrics for just a few dollars.
Stacey is so beautiful she looks like a real model, and her sister thought so too when she used her to practice her photography skills. I love the combination of retro and modern in these pics.
Oomph and Aha is the name of Stacey’s blog, with the tagline “inspiration for living beautifully on a budget.” It’s an apt description because I’ve been looking through it and she has a wonderful design sense coupled with a resourcefulness that I think you’ll find fabulous. I loved this post about how she got creative and wrapped a wedding gift with brown paper and some ivory tulle she had left over from her wedding five years earlier. The result is gorgeous. And I am so excited about this post that includes a video demonstration of a wrapping method called Furoshiki, which uses cloth to create packages that are both green and aesthetically pleasing. I can’t wait to try it, and it’s so simple anyone can do it. It takes literally about ten seconds. Wow. People’s creativity never fails to inspire me.
Thanks Stacey for those beautiful photos! Readers, it’s your turn. I’m getting very low on submissions, so please put on your favorite secondhand outfit, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. We all love to see what you’re finding out there, so don’t be shy. Young and old, big and small, men and women, all are welcome on Thrifty Threads. Are your infants or kids wearing hand-me-downs? Send me a photo.
