It’s a Giveaway!

Readers, I’ve got a giveaway for you! And you know you can trust my recommendation on this product, because I’ve been blogging for over two years, and this is only my second giveaway. And last year’s giveaway was… the same thing, a Muir Glen canned tomato kit. This is the only product I’ve ever accepted free to review and give away on my blog, because I’m over the moon about these tomatoes.

So now that it’s the dead of winter (in most parts of the U.S. at least), and the only tomatoes available in the supermarket are tasteless and shipped from halfway around the world, it’s time to break out the canned tomatoes. And Muir Glen is the best of the best. As far as I’m concerned, they’re tasty enough to eat right out of the can, but the kit includes mouth-watering recipes, with more delicious recipes online. How does chickpea and tomato curry, carmelized onion-tomato focaccia, or fire roasted tomato-basil crab bisque sound?

These organic tomatoes are picked at the peak of freshness and canned immediately for the best taste possible. They’re healthy and delicious, so you can feel great about serving them to your family. And I have great news to those of you concerned about BPA lining in tin cans: the company has changed to non-epoxy lined cans. Here’s what a representative told me: “Muir Glen worked for some time with can suppliers to develop and test alternative linings that do not use BPA, and we identified an alternative that has been proven safe and viable in our processing of tomatoes.  We transitioned to cans with liners that do not use BPA as we are canned this year’s (2010) tomato harvest.” I’m so happy to hear that, and I know many of you will be as well.

This kit makes a great gift, or order it for yourself to make several quick and delicious winter meals. The kit is only $8 and includes free shipping.  Click here to order. But first, enter the giveaway and maybe you’ll be the lucky winner who has a free kit mailed to you.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a Comment. It can be a canned tomato recipe or serving tip, or just why you’d like to win. I’ll randomly pick a winner on Friday, January 28th at midnight PST. Good luck!

I would LOVE to win the tomotoes because I’m a brand new tomato lover. I’ve never, ever like them. This past summer I joined a co-op. I didn’t get to pick and choose which veggies that I got. I had to take what I got. I always got big, juicy tomatoes! I’ve learned to love them fresh, now I have to learn how to cook with them. So, I’d love to win!

They sound like they’re a wonderful product! I love the cute little “crate” they come in too! That’s just awesome and would be super handy for storing some goodies in! :) My favourite thing to do with tomatoes is make a simple soup with tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, onions, & organic stewing beef! Yummy!!

Thank you for the giveaway opportunity! I love cooking with tomatoes. I was salivating reading the crab tomato bisque on the Muir Glen website.

I just recently found your blog & am enjoying exploring your old posts. My DH & I love tomatoes, and were thoroughly disappointed in our local tomato harvest — too much rain & then hot & humid weather…perfect for causing all the tomatoes to burst & go bad. :(

  5. Maureen says

The local tomatoes around here are horrible, winter or summer, so I’d love to try these tomatoes. I’ve never seen them around here, so maybe this would make me order them thru the mail. Thanks!

  6. says

I use canned tomatoes ALOT!! There is something in the canning process that makes the tomatoes even more nutritious. I have a friend here at work who is italian and she says (and I have read it elsewhere too) that tomatoes do wonders for your complexion (eating them that is, not applying them lol though who knows??) Thanks for the opportunity to win this great prize!!

  7. Elisabeth says

I love these tomoatoes! I can’t get enough of them…the tomato sauce has completely changed the taste of our weekly pizza meal! I’d love to try some different recipes with a whole kit!

  8. says

Oh, yum! I’ve been dying to try that fire-roasted tomato crab bisque since it appeared in my inbox last spring…in fact, I think I STILL have it in my inbox! I would love to win.

  9. Jill Schulz says

Canned tomatoes is actually the last canned item that I buy in the grocery store. Oops, other than tuna, I guess, now that I think of it. Anyway, I also gave up purchasing tomato/pasta sauce and have taken to using the canned tomatoes to make my own! I simmer it on the stove with some seasonings, whatever I have available and add whatever other veggies are around, like zucchini out of the freezer from last summer, steamed squash that is still lingering around from the fall, a too-soft pepper from the fridge that I don’t want to throw out because it was an indulgence to purchase in the first place. Then I toss it all in the blender and use it in lasagna, on homemade pizza, in chili. Thanks for the fun giveaway and a terrific blog!

So, just last night Husband and I were calculating how many tomato plants we should grow this year to supplement our CSA tomatoes… There is no such thing as too many tomatoes!!! If I won this, it would totally be my Valentine’s gift for Husband! =)

  11. Jenn H says

I am what you might call a tomato fanatic but have never tried these & would love to. My buddy & I took 500 lbs of tomatoes (yes, that is a 1/4 of a ton!) to the commercial cannery & canned them this summer & I’m already running low on my stock!

  12. Brittany says

I refer to winter tomatoes as fake tomatoes. The only real tomatoes are ones picked fresh from my garden. I do use a lot of canned tomatoes in the winter and my homegrown freezer stash is running low, so I would love to win these.

PS This would make a great Birthday Present for me since my Birthday is Friday

  13. Bobbe says

I’m an okay cook, there are alot of things I do well. Not great, but well. However, I learned how to make spaghetti sauce from mom, who, the story goes, learned it from an Italian godfather. It was the meal I always wanted for my birthday dinner growing up. My mom was a great cook. The only thing that I do as well as she did is the spagetti sauce. I won’t eat anyone elses. Tradition and taste have us using Hunts, but I would be interested in trying a tomato sauce that tastes like real tomatos.

  14. says

I’m not a big contester – but who doesn’t need tomatoes? And with 5 months until I can start my garden, then 3 more months of growing – fresh tomatoes seem so far away.

  15. Julie S says

I’d love to win because I love Muir Glen products!! I just used some tomato paste to make seitan! I’m not a vegan or even a vegetarian….I just wanted to try making it! It is in the oven and smells YUMMY!!!!

  16. TraciFree says

Throwing my lot in for the tomato giveaway. Really enjoy reading your blog, especially the Thrifty Threads posts. Thank you!!

  17. says

Pick me! PIck me! ~ That’s what tomatoes say when they are about to fall off the vine. :)

I miss having a garden with tomatoes I could pick when they were screaming to be picked.

One way I love to use tomatoes: saute zucchini, onions, and peppers in olive oil. Add fresh or canned tomatoes. Serve over pasta. Magnifique!

Thanks for the giveaway. It would be FUN to get this fab prize.

  18. Melissa says

I’d love to win. It’s freezing in Wisconsin and good tomatoes make everything better! Not to mention, I would happily use them in my Super Bowl chili!

  19. Nancy from Mass says

    Oh, I love Muir Glen!

My favorite tomato recipe (okay, one of a few faves) is just tomatoes crushed up with crusty bread, garlic, olive oil and salt and pepper and heated up. It’s an italian recipe and since I am french, I don’t know the true name of it…I only know it tastes unbelievable and is very filling!

  20. Jennifer says

I love Muir Glen tomatoes! They’re so tasty and high quality. I’ve always wanted to get one of their kits but haven’t yet. I’d love to try this one!

  21. Diana says

These are the only canned tomatoes I use. During winter months I make a great deal of soups. One can of herbed tomatoes goes well in chicken soup. Tomatoes in my food this time of year makes me happy.

  22. Carol says

I’d love to win this tomato kit, especially since Muir Glen is now BPA free – I’m excited to try them again! My own tomato crop from last summer was tiny, and my home-canned stash is almost gone. Bring on the tomatoes!!

  23. Megan says

Hey, thanks for the awesome giveaway and, more importantly, the information about the new BPA-free cans. Sounds like I have a brand of tomatoes I can start buying again! As for why I should win? Well, I live in Minnesota and it was -20 and -30 degrees many days last week. Then I went to Houston for a conference, where it was 45 degrees, but I couldn’t find a ripe tomato to save my life. Wah-wahhh.

  24. Hilda says

Well I love give-aways and I love tomatoes. My husband and I are very healthy (we had our yearly physical this morning) and we intend on staying healthy. I really like the BPA free tin cans. I’m a new subscriber to your blog and lovin it. Congratulations to the winner. Thank you.

  25. Amanda Newton says

I just made a pot of seafood soup with the last of my frozen tomatoes from the garden. I would love to win some great canned ones. Thanks for the giveaway.

  26. ruth says

I love love love tomatoes, and have been learning new recipes in this cold, Northeast winter… would love to win!

  27. Kathy M says

Nothing like tomatoes right out of the garden (that seems so far away). Would love to try these. My easiest recipe is just tomatoes and chicken in the crockpot served with a side of veggies….yum.
    Thanks for the opportunity.

  28. Lisa says

My favorite lazy tomato soup recipe is a can of Muir Glen tomatoes heated up with some roasted garlic if I have it and some chopped Kale, then hit it with the immersion blender and throw in dash of milk or cream, nearly instant comfort food!

  29. Connor says

I use canned tomatoes all the time, especially in the dead of winter when you couldn’t pay me to use one of those mealy nerf balls that my local grocery store sells. I know what a real tomato tastes like, thanks very much. But I think that Muir Glen is awesome :)

  30. says

These are the only canned tomatoes we buy as well, in fact, they are the only canned veggies we buy! I would love to win this and make bruschetta for my husband and perhaps some yummy chili con carne before the weather changes here in Arizona. (too hot in summer to eat Chili!)

    Thanks!

  31. Juliep60 says

Stumbled upon your blog when searching for tomato soup cake recipe. Have never had the pleasure of tasting Muir Glen tomatoes, so this would be great to win!

Muir Glen’s tomato’s make the best tortilla soup! I’d love the gift pack so I can make the soup and of course try out all of their recipes!

  34. Maggie Dudzik says

I’d love to win these! I’m usually a tomato-hater but I love the Muir Glen brand. It would be so much fun to try out the recipes. I started making fresh tomato basil soup this past summer with the overabundance of tomatoes from our CSA. So tasty!

  35. says

I’d love to enter. Who doesn’t use tomato products?? Muir Glen cost a little more than the others, so I’ve never tried them. Hopefully I’ll win so I can see if its worth the extra $$. Thanks for the giveaway. :)
