It’s time for another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, craigslist, a yard sale, a clothing swap, or anywhere else you find secondhand clothing.
Today’s model is Casie, back for the second time on Thrifty Threads. Click here if you missed her first submission, where she’s wearing a Betsey Johnson silk dress she remade using her amazing sewing skills. This time, Casie’s wearing another fabulous dress with blue scrunch boots, both bought at her favorite thrift store. The dress was $6.99 and the boots were just $8.99. Casie says she loves them and was so happy they were her size. The red slip peeking out from under the red and blue flowered dress was also thrifted years ago. And the little girl peeking out behind her is Casie’s daughter, who is lucky to have such a talented and enthusiastic mom. Last weekend they made a gingerbread house together, an annual tradition for the holidays.
Casie blogs at 101 Thingees, which refers to a list of things she wants to accomplish that “might be fun, will make her better or smarter, that will make her giggle when she thinks about it, and won’t require a babysitter.” Her list includes everything from “learn to build a fire” to “memorize the Ten Commandments” to “write all the lyrics to the vegetarian cowboy song.” It’s an eclectic list! My favorite is still “write a haiku about bacon,” which she shared in the comments section of her first Thrifty Threads appearance. Casie’s skills aren’t limited to sewing. Recently she’s written about sewing Christmas stockings out of felt (I love the one she made for her dog!), and making recycled t-shirt necklaces with her niece and cooking chicken-fried deer meat (and she’s wearing her Thrifty Threads dress!)
Thanks Casie for another fabulous photo! Casie says she loves to see what other people find on their thrifty treasure hunts. So readers, it’s your turn! Put on your favorite secondhand outfit, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton.angela@gmail.com. I’m still hoping to receive a party dress before the holidays, but I welcome all photos, from old and young, large and small, male and female. And if we’re lucky, Casie will share the lyrics to the vegetarian cowboy song when inspiration strikes.
Please share your best tips for secondhand shopping, plus compliments for Casie in the Comments section. And click here to check out all previous installments of Thrifty Threads.
