Welcome to another installment of Thrifty Threads, AKA Most Stylish Compact-y outfit, where readers model their favorite secondhand clothes.
A compact-y outfit is used or recycled, from Goodwill, a thrift store, a consignment shop, ebay, craigslist, or anywhere else you find used clothing.
Today’s model is Carmen, who has been featured twice on Thrifty Threads before. Click here to see a thrift store outfit suitable for work, and here for a more casual look. This time, she sent this photo of one of her favorite vintage dresses that she found in her hometown thrift store in Ohio. Carmen says she loves all the little details on this dress including the row of buttons down the front and the cute collar. And the ribbons on the sides allow you to cinch the dress if you gain or lose weight. Carmen says she’d already worn the dress a couple of times when she realized it was actually a maternity dress, but you couldn’t really tell because of the empire waist style. I agree with Carmen that the dress was too cute not to wear regularly, and she’s happy that when she does get pregnant, she’ll already have something in her closet. I have a feeling she’ll be wearing this dress for a long time, making the $5 she paid for it go a long way.
Carmen blogs at Life Blessons, with the tagline “the blessings and lessons of this little life of mine.” She writes about her faith, her marriage, and starting a household, including recipes, decorating tips, and money-saving ideas. She’s also a lifetime thrifter, and she loves to write and it shows in her posts. I really like this post about why she blogs.
Thanks Carmen for another cute photo of one of your thrift store scores! I so appreciate everyone’s participation because I can’t keep this series going without you. And I consistently hear from readers that Thrifty Threads is one of their favorite features on this blog. So readers, it’s your turn. If you shop secondhand, put on one of your favorite outfits, snap a photo, and send it to me at barton (dot)angela(at)gmail(dot)com. Please put “Thrifty Threads” in the subject line, and you should hear back from me within a couple of days to let you know I got your email. Don’t be shy, we all want to see your fabulous finds! It inspires us to get out there and see we we can find ourselves.
Please leave tips for thrift store shopping, plus compliments for Carmen in the Comments section. I wonder if it’s getting easier or harder to find good stuff these days. It seems like more people are shopping secondhand, but also more people are going minimalist and getting rid of things. Maybe it evens out. What do you think?
