Bon Voyage to Betsy & Warren

October 1, 2010 by Angela Leave a Comment

Betsy and Warren Talbot have been preparing for over two years for a trip around the world, and today is finally their departure date! Their fantastic blog is Married With Luggage, which I have mentioned several times because it’s one of my very favorites. So head on over to MWL to check out today’s video post about the adventure that lies ahead, and wish them a fond farewell!

I’ve been reading their blog for a year and a half, almost as long as I’ve been writing this one. It’s all about living your dream, and it doesn’t have to have anything to do with travel. They give you the information and insights to make your dream a reality, whatever it may be. They’re super-smart, super-funny, and super-nice people, and their enthusiasm for embracing the life they’ve always wanted is communicated in every single post.

I’m looking forward to sharing this journey with them as they make their way around the world, spending several months in each continent. Not only will I get to live vicariously through their travels, I know they will have amazing stories and insights that will be applicable to everyday life, not just the globe-trotting, adventurous existence they’re embarking upon.

One of the many cool things about Betsy and Warren is that they’re not privileged, entitled folks with all the time and money in the world for leisure, nor are they 20-something kids who have no responsibilities. They’ll both turn 40 while they’re traveling, and they’re leaving successful careers to make this happen. But one day they realized if they weren’t living the life they wanted, no one else was going to make it happen for them. And they committed to doing whatever it took, including getting rid of all their possessions, and even selling their house.

Betsy and Warren have a general plan and direction of where they want to go on their 3-year trip, but they only bought a ticket to their first destination: Quito, Ecuador. Since news of an attempted coup closed the airport in Quito just yesterday, they’ll decide today where in South America they’ll fly to instead. They’re learning the first rule of travel right off the bat: to be flexible and adaptable, as the first road bump popped up even before they left. Let the games begin!

Bon voyage, Betsy and Warren! Good luck and we’ll look forward to your next post.

About Angela

On January 1st, 2009, I joined The Compact and pledged to Buy Nothing New for one year. It sounded like the perfect way to converge my desire to live on less money with my interest in living a simpler life and trying to lessen my carbon footprint. The experiment was so rewarding that I'm continuing with it indefinitely. This blog documents my journey in non-consumerism.
